Redmond Regional EMS Wins Service of the Year Redmond Regional

The hospital has also opened a new main entrance on the opposite side of the hospital. The ambulance entrance is still in the same location. See more information on the changes on the Floyd Medical Center website at www.floyd.org. Floyd Medical Center EMS is the 2003 Georgia EMS Service of the Year. Legislation News Visit the legislation website at www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04.htm Senate Bill 604 passed. This bill provides protection for EMS personnel who contract infectious diseases on the job. House Bill 1720 restores funding lost to medicaid cuts for ambulance services. This bill passed the house and will be voted on in the senate soon. House Bill 1287 places restrictions on red and blue lights in vehicles. The bill passed the house and is in the senate now. Visit the legislation website to check on the bills involving EMS. Time to Order PCRs Order forms for PCRs are available at the Region 1 office. Tour de Georgia Bike Race to Visit Region 1 The tour of Georgia Bicycle Race will begin on April 20 and end on April 25. It starts in Macon, Georgia and will come through Rome on April 22 around 12:00 p.m. Lance Armstrong will be a participant. To learn more about the race visit www.tourdegeorgia.com. EMS Director and EMT Associations Vote to Merge Both the Georgia EMT and EMS Director associations voted to merge into a Georgia EMS Association at the meeting in Augusta. We will have more on this next month. National EMS Week Announced The dates for National EMS Week are May 16 to May 22, 2004 and the theme is "EMS; There When You Need Us". The observance will coincide with National Emergency Medical Services for Childrens Day on May 19. To order a free kit call 800-798-1822. Recert Deadline is Just Around the Corner The end of the recert period is June 30, 2004. This is the deadline for meeting all recert requirements and submitting a recert form to the Region 1 EMS Office. EMTs are required to attend 24 hours of approved continuing education within the recert period (July 1, 2002 - June 30, 2004) and present a copy of a current BCLS card. Cardiac Technicians and Paramedics are required to attend 40 hours of approved continuing education within the recert period (July 1, 2002 - June 30, 2004), present a copy of a current ACLS card and pay a recert fee. Recert forms are available at each service and from the Region 1 EMS Office. Don't wait any longer. Do it now. Work Begins on New Chattooga EMS Station Chattooga County is breaking ground for a new headquarters for the EMS Service. The new headquarters will be located beside the 911 center in Summerville. Congratulations, Chattooga County EMS. Georgia EMS-C Conference Announced The annual Georgia Emergency Medical Service for Children conference will be held on June 2-3 at the Georgia Mountain Center in Gainesville. The Lanier Centre Best Western Hotel offers reduced rates for those attending the conference. Speakers include Carol Ball, Dr. Preston Ball, Steve Davis and Kelly Buddenhagen. Puckett EMS Wins CHANGES ACLS Competition For the third year in a row, Puckett EMS of Cobb County has won the ALS competition at the CHANGES competition in Augusta. The team was composed of Christi Kleiman, Richard Debellow and Dave Kleiman. Dave Kleiman also works for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Service in Canton. Are they unbeatable or what?
