POSTED COURSES HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR EMS RE-LICENSURE CREDIT FOR GEORGIA
Effective August 1st, 2017
the Office of EMS will begin using 2 different T-05 Continuing Education
Approval Forms. One is for Course approved locally by the Service Medical
Director the other is for Non-Medical Director approved courses. Both forms
are now available on the Office of EMS Website.
The biggest change in these forms is a breakdown of the approved hours.
As you should know, GA Licensed EMS Providers are required to have 40 hours
of state approved continuing education every two year recert cycle. Of those
40 hours, they are required to have 4 hours of approved Trauma training, 4
hours or approved Cardiac/Stroke training and 8 hours of approved Pediatric
training. The remaining 24 hours are considered General hours. So, for
example; If a provider takes and 16 hour trauma course, and 8 hour stroke
course, and 16 hour Pediatrics Course, they would have the 40 hours required
in Georgia (but mostly
likely not NREMT required hours) with 4 hours each
going to Cardiac/Stroke and Trauma, 8 hours to Pediatrics and the remaining
hours being applied to their 24 hours of General Education.
With that said it is imperative that Con Ed requestors break down their
con ed requests when they are teaching multiple core topics, Ie. Cardiac and
Pediatrics in the same training module. Therefore, if the course is a 4 hour
in-service, and your course outline shows that 1 hour is on cardiology and 3
hours are in pediatrics, the requestor will need to put those requested in
the appropriate boxes on the new T-05 plus the total requested hours.
For 40 hour refresher courses, NCCR and canned courses such as ITLS, EPC,
AMLS, etc the state office will provide as template of pre-determined
required hours for core contents. The requestor will be required to attach a
course outline to verify the subject matter and hours meet those
This information was shared with the Council on July 27th.
It will also be shared in greater detail at the August 17th
Region 1 Management & Leadership Symposium, and the
December 14th Region 1 EMS
If you are a requestor of Con Ed then make sure you call David Foster at
the Region 1 Office or attend the August 17th
Management/Leadership Symposium in Dalton to learn more.
